Pulling Up & Standing

HUGE milestone in our house yesterday….HUGE!

As I’m watching the babies (Jackson & Kea) play in the living room, I decided that I wanted to try and get Jackson to pull himself up and stand using the sofa. How do I get him to do it…….the laptop! So I put it on the sofa, thinking he’d eye it, but not do anything (i.e, I didn’t get the camera ready).

I walk away so he doesn’t see me….and sure enough he goes for it and I watch him pull himself up!  I bolted as fast as I could to get the camera 5 feet away and when I come back, he has take a full step, facing a different direction and standing up ON HIS OWN with the remote control in his hand. I screamed!!!! And then, he fell.

The good news is that now that he can do it, he won’t stop. He is pulling himself up on EVERYTHING! You name it, he’s using it as something to pull up on.

Here is video of the “pull up” following the above….

Table Foods…..

At Jackson’s 9 month appointment, his pediatrician recommended we start giving Jackson small bits of our table food.  We didn’t waste a moment in getting some food onto his little table…..and Jackson didn’t hesitate one bit in getting some “real food” into his tummy!

On Sunday night, the Makanani family had a Hawaiian feast! I was so happy that Jackson was able to try almost everything considering the kid is part Hawaiian. He ate ALL of his poi and kalua pork

Last night, he shared some penne pasta spaghetti with me, and tonight – meatloaf!

9 Months

Yep, Jackson has been out of the womb the same time he was in. 9 months old…..where has the time gone?  The last month, by far, has been the most active. It’s like Jackson went from an infant to a toddler OVERNIGHT.

His stats from his appointment today:

Weight: 21 lbs 6 oz – 65th percentile
Height: 29.5 inches – 88th percentile

Here are his latest & greatest:
*Jackson is crawling. Started with a few moves and now he can’t stop!

*Can pull himself up.

*Mimics everyone…..even Kona.

*Wearing 12 month clothing.

*Has 6 teeth. (4 bottom, 2 top).

*Loves toes – especially when they are painted.

*Eating lots more. All kinds of purees as well as ice cream, pasta, peaches, mandarin oranges and avocado.  We are going to start grinding up our table food to see how he likes it!

*Can go from back to stomach to sitting – pretty much a pro now!

*Listens so well when his Papa plays the guitar.

*New favorite toy – Nana’s mixing bowls and rice scooper.

*2nd overnight at Grandma & Grandpa’s was a success!

*Biggest flirt by far in the family – he loves the ladies.

*I honestly think he is the happiest baby I have ever met.

Stands in a Crib

No, that isn’t Jackson’s Indian name – he has decided that he wants to stand up in his crib, which inevitably led to a bloody lip.

Jackson officially pulled himself up last Wednesday while my mom & Gary were over for dinner. I missed it, but Shane & Gary caught it. Of course, we couldn’t get him to do it again until Saturday…..when he pulled himself up during naptime.  I put Jackson down for his nap, only to hear him babbling 15 minutes later. When I peeked into his room – there he was, standing up against the sleigh part of his crib (facing the window). I immediately pulled him down and nixed naptime (he obviously wasn’t tired). Since we had a SUPER busy day on Saturday, there was no time to lower the crib mattress, and he was staying the night at Grandma & Grandpa’s anyway.

Then of course, Sunday he crawled and we forgot all about the “standing incident”.

Come Monday, Jackson is “napping” and I hear a loud “THUNK” and then crying. I went in and Jackson was sitting in his “standing area” hysterical….with a bloody lip. He tried to pull himself up and hit his gums/tooth on the way down. Poor guy! We lowered his crib that night…..

Houston, we have a crawler!

I know, I know – I’m in trouble now! Jackson is mobile, and there is no turning back. But I have to admit, I am REALLY excited about this milestone. Jackson is growing and changing daily, it seems like – and next thing I know, he will be walking and talking! I love watching all of his new tricks – and feel even more blessed everyday that I get to witness all of his firsts.

We were at Shane’s parents house for the day, enjoying the weather and visiting with family.  Shane’s cousin Lea & her husband Rob are in town as Rob is starting his NEW JOB today in Mountlake Terrace. Everyone was out and about running errands, so it was just Shane, Nana, Papa, Me & Jackson hanging out in the living room.  Jackson and I were on the floor playing, and the next thing you know – he was crawling.  Luckily, we were all watching him, so ALL 4 of us witnessed him crawl. Everyone was was in SHOCK that he did it all on his own with no help.  Moments later, the rest of the family came home and watched him crawl all over.

It wasn’t a one-time gig either – now he won’t stop. Put him on the floor and he is OFF.

Got a few videos of him crawling immediately following the first run.

Confession time

Gas. Everyone’s got it. Even women. It’s not “lady like” to pass gas, but when do, we always do our best to muffle it. Or look around like it must of been someone else doing it. Not me, no way did I “FART!”

Well, one thing I love about my husband is that I am free to pass gas as needed. He actually asks me not to hold it in, because he doesn’t want me to have an upset tummy. This has been a standing rule from the very beginning. We got it out (pun intended) in the open after date number one and it’s always stuck. No holding in your farts.

Fast forward to when I was pregnant. I noticed that I was getting gassy on the average – like ALL THE TIME. I hated it, but chalked it up (and used as an excuse) to the pregnancy. Well, pregnancy came and went and I was STILL blowin’ it up (as Shane would say). Then one day, I discovered the culprit – chocolate. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!! I honestly think I eat chocolate in one form or the other EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

This sucks.  So now, not only am I unable to eat beans, now I can’t eat my beloved chocolate? That’s like asking me to give up my child! It was NEVER like this pre-pregnancy. I could eat chocolate ALL day long, and never have an issue. Why now?

So, now I can’t even eat one single Hershey Kiss. If I do, hell is to pay in the rear. Stinky, rancid, someone killed a rodent and it’s hiding out in my pants, kind of odor.

Anyone else have this happen? Anyone?

My wish-list

A girl can dream right?  To be perfectly honest, I am living my dream. I get to be a SAHM – something I always dreamt of, but didn’t think was possible. However, I have realized, that with living your dream, comes sacrifice. My sacrifice? Giving up my lifestyle I had pre-baby.

So for a moment, and just a moment as I don’t want to tease myself, I came up with a wish-list. Things I would have bought myself if I hadn’t been a Stay-At-Home-Mom……

A case of my FAVORITE wine.
14 hands Merlot. Can’t buy it at the grocery store,
have to buy it by the case. $$$$$

Homemade Baby food = FAIL!

In an effort to save money, and put to use our food processor that has been collecting dust since our wedding – I decided to embark on making Jackson’s baby food. I read up on how to do it and even got local produce from the fruit/veggie market down the street. I felt good about what I was doing, and even better knowing what was I was feeding my precious little baby.

First try…..I figured since Jackson LOVES him some sweet potatoes, how could I go wrong with that.  Yikes, he gagged worse than the time I tried to feed him jarred sweet peas.  And then he spit them back at me. That’s right, my 8 month old BABY spit his food out and all over me. Nice kid, nice.

Next try, pears. That’s today, at lunch – I’ll update later ;)

Looks like the real stuff…..I’ll give it a try!

Standing!

Jackson has begun to stand! And here I thought sitting was the coolest trick my kid could do! The first time he actually pulled himself up and stood was on Shane’s birthday (Jackson’s 8 month birthday), in the bathtub at Shane’s parents house.  Progressively, he has been pulling and standing with a little spot here and there from someone. He usually falls, but gets right back up – he’s determined to master it (like his mama).

Although he’s not crawling yet, he is well on his way with that too. He can get himself up on all fours and rock, and then lunge himself to what he wants…..crawling and walking – dang our kid is getting old!

Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Yesterday was just like any other holiday for us – lots of food, spending time with family and  cute outfits ;)

Jackson had an “okay” kind of a day. Kind of cranky towards the end, but overall he was in pretty good spirits. We started off the day opening up Easter baskets, then off to the Makanani’s, and ending the day with the Sogn/Edwards family.

We feel so very blessed to have family close by. Shane’s family live 7 minutes away and my mom & Gary live about 15 minutes away. Makes the holidays that much easier.
